Our Philosophy

Cypress School believes that all children should be able to Learn Without Limits.

Our school has developed a unique humanistic approach to education focused on the whole child:

  • Social
  • Emotional
  • Physical
  • Intellectual
  • Creative

We understand that individual growth comes from a unique combination of the art and science of teaching:

  • Communication training and therapy
  • Sensory integration
  • Occupational therapy
  • Physical education
  • Social skills
  • Systematic instructional techniques
  • Positive behavior supports
  • Applied behavior analysis
  • Visual cueing systems

By successfully supporting the unique learning needs of each child in school and community-based opportunities, the student reaches a high level of personal achievement.

We believe that a student’s success is built on their collective team which includes the child, their family, the school staff and therapists and the larger community in which they volunteer, work, recreate and socialize.

Self-advocacy/Initiation, whether expressing their basic needs, requesting a preferred activity or planning their future, is taught throughout the day, across all activities.

Diversity is honored and explored as students learn to appreciate similarities and differences at school and in the community.

Creativity is encouraged to develop social and emotional health. Creative arts activities include self-exploration and expression through art, music, drama and movement activities. Music and art classes are taught on site.  Drama, dance and movement are taught at community sites.

With this unique continuum of educational and therapeutic services our students experience daily and long-term success; individually and as a class member, school member, family member and community member.

Cypress School is achieving its core value – to enhance the quality of our student’s lives.
